Name Doppelgänger
Weird.
Last night, I got an email from Qatar Airways, with a boarding pass for a flight today. I’m not jetting off anywhere, so it was a bit confusing… Checked the email headers, definitely from Qatar Airways. Checked the IP address it came from. Qatar. Looked at the boarding pass. Looks real enough. Hm.
I just got off the phone with Qatar Airways, where the conversation went...

Mosquitoes
It turns out I’m not old, after all:
What’s interesting - to me, at least - is that after I’ve heard the high-pitched sound for a short while (like in the sound clip in the link above), it remains for a while, just like tinnitus. Playing the sound again and it seems louder the second time. It’s about 5 minutes since I last played the sound, and I can still...

Jim O’Neill was flying his Cessna plane at 15,000 feet when he suddenly lost his sight while suffering a stroke last Friday.
The 65-year-old, who had taken off from Prestwick airport and was on his way to Colchester in Essex, radioed for help and the RAF responded, sending a jet to his aid.
The military aircraft flew alongside Mr O’Neill and guided him down to land at RAF...

“Twenty-nine per cent of teachers believe that creationism and intelligent design should be taught as science, according to an online survey of attitudes to teaching evolution in the UK. Nearly 50% of the respondents said they believed that excluding alternatives to evolution was counter-productive and would alienate pupils from science.”

They’ve only gone and given me a PPL… Hurrah!
Home from the airfield. 1h05 flying tomorrow (to get to 43hrs logged) then I’m ready for the skills test on Monday. Huzzah!
Blog, reinstated
After, um, a little over 9 months of server downtime, I’ve finally reinstated my blog. The server’s still dead, incidentally.
Other than lots of foreign travel (including such exotic locations as Kazakhstan, Kenya and Tanzania, Jersey, Poland, Spain and Liverpool), flying lessons (PPL skills test on Monday, weather-permitting!), turning 30 and all the other things that have happened...
To do before my PPL Skills Test on Monday: Flight Planning & Performance exam, 1h15 solo flying, 1h05 dual flying. By end of the weekend. Hm

'Tardorrist
After the pathetic attempts to try and terrorise the UK in the past few days, I coined a new word:
‘Tardorrist (n) - would-be terrorist without sufficient intelligence to build and detonate an explosive device.
The problem seems to be that these new ‘tardorrists forget that the UK, for a significant number of years in its recent history, actually had real terrorists in the form of the IRA (and...

How to win friends and influence people
I just got my latest phone bill from Vodafone today and it seemed a little higher than usual. After a bit of faffing to get online statements working, I found out what it was. I was in Jersey recently on business and it seemed that I’d been charged 50p/min for incoming calls while I was there. This seemed a little steep (I’d expected that Jersey’d be counted as “UK, so I queried it. The CSR agreed...

Too Much Spam?
hmm. I think I’ve reached the point where I’ve seen too much spam.
I was just looking at a photos website (my sister’s just put her holiday photos online) and I saw an ad with the text “30% off all enlargements!” and jumped to completely the wrong conclusion.
